There are many fasting programs to pick from including the Daniel Fast. This is based on the Bible character in the Old Testament who was a prophet. The fast is based on the spiritual experiences of the character. This fast is often for 21-days. It’s high on vegetables and doesn’t include any sources of animal protein. This differs from other types of fasts including water fasts that don’t include any food, and dry fasts that don’t allow any food or water. This makes the program easier to follow in a way because it’s very difficult to go one full day without any food or water, for example.

One of the main differences about this fast named after the Bible character is it doesn’t just try to heal a person’s body and mind. It also focuses on healing people’s spirits. When people want to focus more on their spiritual life and not just improving their health then this fast might e a good option for them. That’s because it shifts the time people usually spend eating on their spiritual life. In many ways, it’s a holistic approach to fasting since it focuses on the whole person.  For example, you might want to do the 21-day version or a different one.

What Is the Daniel Fast?

This fast is based on the prophet in the Old Testament.  Fun Fact: The Bible mentions fasting 70+ times. Fasting has historically been part of Christianity but it’s been used less in recent decades. That’s changed and today many Christians and churches are starting to use the practice again.

It’s important to note, that this is a partial fast. So, you won’t have to stop eating and drinking completely while following the fast. However, the diet plan is somewhat “restrictive.” For example, you’ll be eating more veggies and it doesn’t allow protein sources from animals.

It’s worth noting that this fast has different versions. One of the most common ones is the 21-day fast that requires you to do the partial fast for three full weeks.

This program is based on two references in the book of Daniel about fasting. One refers to fasting 10 days in which Daniel only eats veggies and drinks water.

In another reference, Daniel mourns for three weeks. During that time he didn’t eat meat or “pleasant food.” He also didn’t drink any wine.

The fast is based on “clean” foods that are described in the book of Leviticus. This means you can’t eat food like pork and shellfish when following the fast. The book of Deuteronomy says that people shouldn’t eat animals in water that don’t have fins and scales.

This means when you follow Daniel fast you can’t eat certain kinds of seafood. That includes shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and oysters. You also can’t eat some kinds of fish like sharks and swordfish since they don’t have either fins or scales.

It’s important to know which foods the Bible defines as clean since it’s part of this fast. However, it’s worth noting that this particular fast doesn’t include any animal protein at all.
